Competing at the recent “Défi Ile Bizard” soccer tournament the U-12 home town Blitz boys soccer team advanced to the medal rounds and came ever so close to a podium appearance. Playing in their unbelievable sixth game in three days of competition and in their third game of the day, the Blitz boys simply ran out of gas as the CSR Russillon Rapides boys defeated the Blitz 2-0 in the U-12 masculine Bronze medal game. Simon Roy opened the scoring for the Rapides at the twelve-minute mark of the opening period when he scored a lucky goal that bounced off the shoulders of a Blitz defender before dribbling behind Blitz goaltender Marco DiTeodoro.

Following the goal, the Blitz came to life as Miguel Perno-Monette, Olivier Bouliane and Michael Mucciardi were substituted into the game. Mucciardi in particular was impressive as he consistently drove the side lines to advance the ball past the Rapides very strong defensive brigade.

With the contest at 1-0 in favour of the visitors, Rapides ace forward Francisco Fernando Menesses Vasquez added the insurance goal for his team when at the two-minute mark of the second half he simply out ran Blitz defenders Noah D’Addario, Adam Ramundo and Sean Sliman to score on Blitz netminder Marco Biteodoro. With their backs to the wall and time running out the Blitz mounted an all out offensive drive with striker Brendan Scalabrini leading the charge.  Scalabrini along with Rigel Martinez and Yazid Moumni to name just a few had several good opportunities in the Rapides zone but were unable to find the opposition’s net. Final score: Rapides 2 – Blitz 0 in an entertaining match that neither side deserved to lose.
