Sarah White and Vincent Riendeau get recognition

Two young West Island athletes received bursaries from the Fondation de l’Athlète d’Excellence at the beginning of April at the occasion of the spring cocktail held at the John Molson room of the Molson Coors Brewery.

The Foundation for Athletic Excellence Québec granted $116,000 in scholarships to 30 student-athletes, who distinguished themselves in various sports, through its various sponsorship programs.

Sarah White from Pierrefonds received a grant of $ 4,000 from Imagineo for her performances in wheelchair athletics and Vincent Riendeau from Beaconsfield received a grant of $2,000 by the Bruny Surin Foundation for his tenure in diving competitions.

Sixteen-year-old Sarah White got her nod for her excellence in wheelchair athletics. She was a silver medalist in the 100m and finished fourth in the 200m and 400m in 2011 Para-Pan-American games held in Guadalajara, Mexico in November. She also won the gold in the 400m at 2011 U.S. Championship. She studies social sciences at Collège Ste. Marcelline.

Fifteen-year-old Vincent Riendeau was the gold medalist at the tower, the 3m and 1m springboard at the 2011 Summer Nationals in the 14-15 year-olds category. He also won a silver medal at the tower, finished 5th at the 1m and 6th at the 3m springboard at the International Diving Meet of 2011 in Dresden, Germany in the 14-15-year-olds category. He is a Grade 9 student at College Ste. Anne de Lachine.
