The arrival of the Memorial Cup will be celebrated on May 17th with a big parade. Former soldiers will cross the streets of Shawinigan to the City Hall. The Memorial Cup was created in 1919 in memory of canadian soldiers who died during the war. In the evening, an opening dinner will be held at Espace Shawinigan. The four participating teams will be presented during the evening. We expect 600 people to take part in this event, which will mostly regroup business people of the region.
During the Trophy Ceremony, held Saturday May 26, at the Arts Centre, the fans will meet the best players of the Canadien Hockey League(CHL). This event will be open to the public, who will have a chance to get autographs from the players. A Golf Tournament will be held on May 24th at the Memorial Golf Club for the dignitaries, officials and sponsors of the tournament. Placing the fan first
During the whole tournament the fans will be placed in first plan. Espace Shawinigan, will host the Hockey Hall of Fame, with numerous prestigeous trophies. ‘’We took the best package deal available. We will present five trophies and different historical objects. Cartain players will offer autograph sessions.’’ Explained Luc Arvisais. An entry fee will be charged and a shuttle will be available to go from the Bionest Centre to the exposition.
In the Jacques-Plante Arena a series of interactive games will be proposed to the fans. In the package that the Memorial Cup comittee took with the Hall of Fame, 10 games that can usually be seen at the famous Toronto Musuem will be placed in the amphitheatre. The Canadien Army will expose their vehicules between the Bionest Centre & the Jacques-Plante Arena.
A marquee 80 by 200 feet will be installed near the Bionest Centre and will allow fans who do not have a Memorial Cup ticket to view the games on top quality screens. It is also in the area that the traditional Tailgate and numerous shows will take place. For the first weekend, the Western will be homoured with presentations from Dark Whiskey & Honky Tonk Boys.
Former players wanted…
The organing comittee decided to set up a marquee dedicated to former players of the Cataractes, Dynamos and Shawinigan Juniors. Former players who are interested in participating in the festivities are invited to visit the official Memorial Cup webpage or contact the comittee at 819-805-0265 to fill in an inscription form.
The comittee hopes to sell the remaining 850 package deals left for the tournament, which cost $550 tax included. When you visit the official facebook page for the tournament, you have a chance to win przes, as numerous draws will take place during the next few months.
