Pierrefonds man wins provincial award
A Pierrefonds man takes home the Charles-Biddle prize for exceptional contribution to Quebec society.
Jacek Litwin, originally from Poland, resides in Quebec since 1987. From 1990 he has been Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cegep Saint-Laurent.
From 1993 until 1996 he led a Franco-Quebecois research group on machining assisted by laser, the results of which have permitted to show the possibility of increasing the productivity and the quality of the mechanical pieces while at the same time lowering the cost of production.
Litwin has also contributed to the scientific and educational community of Montreal. Since 1994 he has directed the Quebec Olympics’ vocational and technical training programs organized by Compétences Québec.
He also established a laboratory for tribology—equipment unique in Quebec—which serves to document the resistance to friction of mechanical pieces.
Litwin has 28 publications under his belt.
