Relay For Life

This year’s edition marked the fourth time that the event was held in the borough, more specifically at Marcel-Laurin Park. The Survivors’ Victory Lap kicked off the evening as people living with cancer or who are in remission relayed around the track showing they are still full of energy.

Afterward, the main event began in a friendly and festive atmosphere. Teams of 10 people (family, friends and co-workers) started to walk and relay around the track. The teams could meet and relax in the tent village set up and equipped by the participants while group animations and activities entertained everybody throughout the event, from dusk to dawn.

After sunset, it was time for the Luminary Ceremony. Hundreds of luminaries placed beforehand around the track were lit to honour those who have won or lost their battle with cancer. From then on, the luminaries provided light and inspiration for participants throughout the night.

The funds collected by the Canadian Society’s Relay For Life will directly finance research projects, provide services and support to people living with cancer, distribute up-to-date information on cancer, encourage cancer prevention through the promotion of healthier lifestyles and public interest advocacy.
