A John Abbott College graduate is hoping for big laughs — and a big break — as she sets to perform at this year’s Just for Laughs comedy festival.
Claire Brosseau, 30, will be taking part in the Homegrown Comic Competition on July 18 as well as the Dating it show late Friday night.
“It’s a show for up-and-coming comics,” said Brosseau, who grew up in Beaconsfield.
“This is the best comedy festival in the world,” she added. “I always wanted to make it here, it’s a huge deal for me.”
She has been working on her acting and standup comedy career going between Montreal and Toronto. She has been doing standup for almost three years now.
Her material is based on her life experiences. “It’s about me being a woman trying to get a career going, about dating. It’s not for kids, it’s adult material.”
Brosseau said she caught the acting bug while attending Beaconsfield High School. “They had such a good acting program there when I was 15-16-years-old.”
She then went on to study music and theatre at JAC, graduating in 1996.
The Homegrown Talent Competition starts at 7 p.m., July 18, at the Cabaret Juste pour rire, 2111 St. Laurent Blvd., Montreal. The Dating It show starts Friday at 11:59 p.m. at Kola Note, 5240 Parc Ave., Montreal.
