$80,000 reward to find Cédrika Provencher
For more than three weeks, one subject has captured the hearts and minds of all Quebecers: the disappearance of nine-year-old Trois-Rivières resident Cédrika Provencher. She was last seen July 31.

In Trois-Rivières and all around the province, people are talking about Cédrika Provencher. Far from letting themselves be beaten, her family and friends, investigators and volunteers have all kept up hope for her eventual return.

More and more, though, the province as a whole has mobilized to help join in the search for Cédrika. A wind of sympathy has manifested itself unlike any other observers can remember. The wave of solidarity has washed over diverse organizations and businesses as well. Those who have taken up the call have kicked in an $80,000 reward for information leading to Cédrika Provencher’s whereabouts, and authorities feel it will help find the redhead, whose smiling face can be seen on missing posters tacked up all across Montreal and the province.

Sûreté du Québec spokesman Isabelle Gendron said the funds will help loosen lips that might otherwise remain tightly shut.

More than 50 investigators are still working on the case and are sorting through the hundreds of tips they’ve received from the public.

The Transcontinental Media family of weekly newspapers, including The Chronicle, is joining the rest of Quebec in offering their support to the Provencher family in this difficult time.
