Five graduating students from schools located in St. Laurent were each awarded a $500 scholarship by the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) during a ceremony held at the St. Pius X Facility in Ahuntsic on October 30.
A total of 40 cash scholarships were given to students who decided to continue their studies in a post-secondary educational program and who met specific criterias. The scholarships were divided into two categories. The first 25 were awarded to students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, as well as involvement in school life activities such as volunteerism, representing the school in different events, participating in the student council or in school sports.

LaurenHill Academy saw three of its students rewarded in this category as Nadia Daly, Vanessa Cianciarelli and Alexandra Black each went home with a little more money to invest in their future. Pickinson Adams who studies at the St. Laurent Adult Centre was also granted a scholarship in this category. Another St. Laurent Adult Centre student was awarded a scholarship, but it was his perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds and personal difficulties that allowed him to get it. Each student also received a free all-in-one printer courtesy of Dell.

These scholarships were funded by the proceeds of the third EMSB scholarship golf tournament that was held in Lachute in June 2006. Beneficiaries from the most recent tournament, which took place last June, will be chosen at the end of the current academic year.
