Lac St Louis Brings Home 2 Golds and 2 Bronze at 2008 Dodge Cup
The Lac St Louis region won 2 dodge cup championships last weekend, both in hockey feminin...Bantam AA Selects coached by Pointe Claire resident Paul Fredette and the Bantam A Etoiles de Beauval. Hudson resident Bruce Hannough led his Peewee AA Elites team brought home the bronze medal, as did Junior A Pierrefonds /DDO Marquis led by head coach Lindsay Knowlton and Marty Grayner from Dollard.
Lac St Louis entered 58 hockey feminin teams in competition this season, the most of any region in the province of Quebec. Players from our program have reached the highest levels of Canadian women's hockey...Kim St Pierre (Chateauguay) Canadian National Team, Vanessa Davidson two time (back to back) female player of the year in Quebec and the 2008 Female Athlete of the Year at McGill University and CIS Championship Tournament All-Star, Ann-Sophie Bettez won the scoring conference scoring championship playing for McGill Martlets, selected as a conference all-star and rookie of the year and Catherine Ward CIS Championship Tournament All-Star, first conference all-star.
Lac St Louis , also, featured Leslie Oles, Lauriane Rougeau and Camille Dumais on the Team Canada silver medalists at U-18 world championship held in Calgary in January.
" We have some strong people leading our programs in Lac St Louis. You have the support and direction of Kevin O'Reilly VP Hockey Feminin, Lac St Louis and JP Fortier (President Lac St Louis); Ed Dodds leading the Elites program, Mark James handling things for the Selects. Add in the coaching supervision we get from Mike Flaherty and the tremendous work that is provided from the leaders of the hockey programs at each organization (Verdun Lasalle, Lachine, TMR; Beauval, Suroit/Kahnawake; Trois Lacs, Lakeshore, Deux Rives and Dollard), our program has come along way, said Chris Sides, Responsable Hockey Feminin, Lac St Louis.
Sides continued, "Six years ago, Hank Binning and a couple of his supporters felt it was time to bring double letter hockey to Lac St Louis for the hockey feminin program. Our program has continued to grow with more girls joining the program, we have implemented a development model that is providing an infrastructure for the development of players , coaches and officials at each level; we are starting to accomplish our goals and provide some leadership in this area.
