HIT THE POST WITH CJAD'S RICK MOFFAT, VOICE OF THE ALS & THE CANADIENS
I hate seeing whiners in the media and cover-their-butt sport bureaucrats getting on Canadian athletes while the Games are still on. Some are already calling for cuts to government funding. I’d love to see a federal bureaucrat propose MORE FUNDING and LESS GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRATS. Don’t we have as many mucky-mucks at the games as actual competitors, while dozens of other athletes who deserve to be in Beijing have been left home?

Wanna win at Russian Roulette? Kindly pass the gun to someone else. The Als have beaten the Tiger-Cats, Blue Bombers and Argos in succession putting each opposing head coach on the firing line. I won’t be surprised if the Argos’ Rich Stubler is the first to take a bullet. As one CFL player puts it…”he’s pulled a Rust (defensive genius who “lost the room” in 2001) and the Argos room is in chaos.”

West Islander Scott Flory is adamant about stopping the NFL threat to the CFL. “I’d have a Canadian flag tattoo-ed to my butt…if I believed in tattoos,” says the likeable lineman. “I’m one of the few Alouettes born in Canada and schooled in football in Canada and I want my kids to grow up on the CFL. I want the league bigger and stronger 100 years from now.” We stand on guard with thee, Scott.

It was great to see Alexia Calvillo roadtripping to Toronto now that her radiation is finished up and some blood work and a pet-scan is all that remains for now. Anthony had one beautiful lady in his arms, and Alexia at his side as he left the field following Friday’s impressive win. Could a QB ask for anything more in his football dreams? (Rookie head coach Marc Trestman had his angels on the roadtrip as well…wonder if they all have to come on the Fan Train trip back to Toronto in October to keep the QB and the coach’s luck intact?)

Avon Cobourne, Anwar Stewart and Eric Deslauriers were the nominees for Worst-Dressed Man on the Roadtrip this week. They were forced to strut too-sexy-for-the-runway-style thru the lobby of the Royal York Hotel on the day before the Argos game. Deslauriers and “the other AC” ended up sharing the dishonour: Deslaurier’s fashion felony—two different shoes! Cobourne: “tightie whities” cotton pants with a stale yellow sweater. Cobourne and Stewart ended up winning CJAD gift certificates to MH Grover and Sons (the players’ favorite big&tall shop in Verdun) for their on-field strutting, while Deslauriers seemed as fired up physically as I’ve seen him this season.

Brett Favre comes out of retirement only to tell the Jets his “arm is tired”? Wake it up!

One future Canadian Football Hall of Famer tells me Avon Cobourne is the best player on the Als AND the "best teammate."

Hey Mats, hope your legs aren’t so tired that you’re headed to the Swedish shuffleboard courts! I know every other Leaf that Fletch wants to ship out seems to attract the Florida Panthers, but I’ll take a sunrise from the Mount Royal lookout ever Sunrise, Florida any day. I’ll even put ijn a good word with Mr. Grover if you need a new suit for a news conference in Montreal. I suspect the Grovers would be more than happy to stich a #13 onto any size you need.

It’s a proud time for Lachine-native Dr. Aled Edwards, SG, one of Canada’s foremost research scientists. His son Trevor (born a Montrealer but raised in Toronto) starts on a baseball scholarship in North Carolina this fall. Turns out the coach’s father is a former teammate of the Rocket’s. Rocket Richard, I mean, not Rocket Roger Clemens!
