Adelia Café in Pointe Claire has 19 flavours of coffee for sale. Chronicle, Albert Kramberger
Hot stuff
Fall is just around the corner, bringing with it long hours of studying and cold temperature. For this merry time of year The Chronicle decided to end its Best of the West competition with the finest place to get hot beverages in town.

Choosing a winner was not easy, but after heated debates over what makes a good drink, the judges decided to grade each contestant on three essential criteria’s: taste, house selection and “ambiance” (as in how well you can relax while enjoying your beverage).

With a total of 460 points, Java U on St. Charles Boulevard in Kirkland came in third. Their good selection coupled with an easy going atmosphere provided for a fun place to unwind. However, in tasting their chai latte and café moka made with rich chocolate, the judges felt their recipes were not very original.

Café Maurizio, also on St. Charles Boulevard in Kirkland, is the runner up with 470 points. They ended their honourable finish with good tasting coffee. Judges were mostly impressed by the lack of a bad after taste, as well as the friendly atmosphere.

And finally, Adelia Café in the Valois Village in Pointe Claire, surpassed all beverages with its delectable lattes. Finishing with 515 points Adelia had the biggest variety of drinks as well as beans with 19 flavours from around the globe ranging from Costa Rica to Kenya.
