Myrand captures track and field gold
Freshman Melanie Myrand of Pointe Claire, Que., won gold on Saturday as McGill captured the Sherbrooke Open cross-country running meet at Parc Victoria in Sherbrooke. Myrand, a 22-year-old nursing major finished first in a field of 73 women, completing the 4.4-kilometre circuit in 15 minutes, 38 seconds. She was 14 seconds ahead of McGill teammate Brittany Therrien, a freshman from Victoria, B.C., who came in second. Valerie Belanger, from the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, also made the podium with a time of 16:04.
