Managers can score with rugby seminar

Combining his love of rugby and business background, Beaconsfield resident Guillermo Gulli is organizing a managers’ training seminar where he will instil a team concept based on this sport that can be applied in the business world.

Rugby For Managers will consist of four weekly two-hour sessions starting the night of Feb. 3 to be run out of the Beaconsfield Recreation Centre. Participants (men and women combined) will be split into two teams and will actually conduct rugby scrimmages (sportswear required) before sitting down for some food and drinks, workshops as well as a multi-media presentation looking at real case business scenarios. The rugby modified game portion of the seminar will be non-contact and you don’t need to be an athlete to participate, Gulli said.

“Rugby has everything,” he boasted. “There is no Maradona (superstar) in this game. This game isn’t about one player that’ll make the difference. It’s a team effort.”

The emphasis of the seminar will be team building and high performance.

“I will train managers who will bring these skills back to their company,” Gulli said, adding he will extrapolate values from rugby and show how they can apply to the business world.

“In rugby, there is a lot of sacrifice and fear of tackles but there is also super enjoyment,” he added. “I want to transfer that to the business environment so they can deal with economic adversities. I will train them in decision making and how to score.”

Gulli, who has an MBA and civil engineering degree, started coaching rugby in the West Island shortly after coming to Canada from Argentina about six years ago. He also runs the 300 Rugby Academy that trains and introduces youngsters to the sport.
