Shopping for luxury at Lux Décor
Shopping for luxury at Lux Décor
When a girl like me makes it her job to go shopping for style, you’ve got to set some rules. I am only allowed to buy finds under ten dollars or if it’s in my “trying to find” book (a little note pad I keep in my purse of the things I am looking for). If I love it, but it doesn’t fall under these two categories I must wait 24 hours before I can return to make the purchase. Last but not least, I must give my husband the chance to talk me out of it! I love interior design, if I didn’t make some rules I’d be broke… and single.
My next stop on our shopping tour is located in the new addition of Pointe Claire Plaza at the corner of St. Jean and the 20. A boutique with the motto: accessible luxury. Lux Décor takes traditional pieces and gives them a contemporary twist. The trick with this place is to slow down, otherwise you’ll miss the extras. For example, you can have mirrors customized! In the children’s section, they have a pink area rug with a ladybug carved into it; so cute. Marina Gianotti suggested having your daughter’s initials carved into it. I also love that idea. They keep a selection of bedding in stock but I had no idea they did costume bedding for children. In the past I’ve had young ones with me when shopping and you miss so much keeping them from breaking stuff.

Ok, here’s the part I always have trouble with. I don’t want to give an inventory list but I want you to get a feel of what’s offered; starfish and coral, bathroom accessories, table, floor and hanging light fixtures, area rugs, furniture, prints and bedding. I was particularly impressed with the choice of drapery they keep in stock; it’s rare to find them with linings. I also loved the large round ottoman. Lux is a fabulous place to find the details that you’ll use to polish off your look.

Marina Gianotti gave me a great tip to add to my article today. S,he says “if you find a picture of a room you love in a magazine, instead of trying to recreate the whole room do a vignette of it in your room.” Think of it this way, use a piece of furniture with a finish you like, which is similar to the photo and add accessories like those in the photo. The combination together is a vignette.

I spent 3.99$ today on a lovely little urchin votive for the shelf in my bathroom and once I’m all done here my husband and I are going to have a little talk. Wish me luck, maybe I’ll see you at Lux tomorrow.

You can also find them at their second location in Vaudreuil at3210 Boul. De La gare or go to www.lux-decor.com
