John Abbott College appoints new Academic Dean
The Board of Governors of John Abbott College is pleased to announce the nomination of Mr. Erich Schmedt, for a five-year term, as its new Academic Dean effective immediately.

Mr. Schmedt joined John Abbott College Faculty in 1986 to later become Chair of the Biology department, and in 1996, was appointed Dean of Science and Related Technologies. Mr. Schmedt brings to his new position a vast experience in all facets of postsecondary education.

“I am thrilled with Erich Schmedt’s appointment,” says Ginette Sheehy, Director General of John Abbott College. “Erich is well respected by students and colleagues and has a tremendous appreciation of the diverse needs of stakeholders within the College. He will be a great asset in this exciting time of changes for John Abbott as we embark on a construction and renovation project which will include the construction of a new Science and Heath Technologies facility.”



“Erich Schmedt’s knowledge of college system, his tremendous experience in teaching and learning, as well as his outstanding administrative and managerial skills, made him the ideal candidate for the position of Academic Dean,” announced Mrs. Judy Kelley, Chair of the Board of Governors. “Furthermore, the Academic Council welcomed the report of the Academic Dean Search Committee and is satisfied with the choice.”
