HIT THE POST WITH CJAD'S RICK MOFFAT, VOICE OF THE ALS & THE CANADIENS
Can you even imagine Anthony Calvillo in green and white of the Riders or worse (the horror) the blue and white of the Argos, not the Als' colours?
Poised for another milestone of Hall of Fame proportions (#2 Alltime TD passes), what do you think Anthony Calvillo says was his toughest decision in pro football? Only the decision to come to Montreal in the first place!
After a quick stretching routine in Regina on the eve of the Riders' game (AC tells me his teammates are teasing him about the retro jerseys the Als will wear---"Hey AC, was this the uniform you wore when you were a rookie?") the future Canadian Football Hall of Famer admitted to me that he did some serious soul-searching for a week before agreeing to be a backup in Montreal over the chance to keep starting in Saskatchewan.
My CFL sources suggest AC already had a verbal agreement with Jim Popp, who'd been talking trade with the Tiger-Cats following a disastrous year in Hamilton (imagine that---a disastrous year in Steeltown). The trade fell through, AC agreed to come as a free agent, but then the Argos and Roughriders wanted a peice of the action.
"I was seriously worried that if I had another poor season like I did in Hamilton, I'd be out of the league and out of a job," says AC, proudly wearing the red and white of the 50's&60's Als.
Als D-lineman Keron Williams, CJAD's choice as MH GROVER & SONS Defensive Star of the Week for his pair of sacks and fumble recoveries vs. the Eskimos is a caricature sketch artist sooooo...Keron, how would you draw up AC the milestone-maker? "I'd definitely give him a gun for an arm and no need to give him a walker now, cuz even tho he's old...he's moving!" laughs the likeable d-tackle about the 1 qb he does NOT want to make kiss the carpet.
Did the NHL schedule-maker have the inside track with Bob Gainey's moves? A visit to the Komo-saurus' new lair to open the season, then a hockey-homecoming for Spacek in Game 2 of regular season, for Cammalleri in Game 3, and Alex The Artist's performance-art at the Bell Centre in just the 2nd home-game of the season? Follow that up with Komisarek's first boo-bird treatment before the end of October and you've got me wishing summer was over before it even starts and we can cut right to Fall.
Did you hear about the pro soccer player who got fined for his dissing the refs on Twitter? Does that make this guy--Ching is his name--a Twit?
