Chen wins gold
Representing the Pierrefonds-based West Island Badminton club, Cynthia Chen won gold in under-12 singles and silver in u-12 doubles at the recently held provincial badminton tournament in Laval. West Island’s Jonathan Frenette, voted one of the top-four junior players in the province last year, captured silver in the u-16 boys’ singles category.

“We have had some outstanding players in the past but at this point Cynthia is the strongest female player for her age ever produced in this region, said West Island Badminton Club head coach David Pealow. “She didn’t even push herself in the final. Meanwhile, Jonathan’s silver was a terrific feat as well. He was playing against older competition, and showed style and great nerve.

Elsewhere, West Island’s Kelly cardazzi captured silver in u-12 doubles while Chris Cardazzi advanced to the semifinal round in u-12 singles.
