Desforges finishes sixth
Dorval native Émilie Desforges posted a solid sixth-place finish last Friday in a Nor-Am giant slalom race at Winter Park, Colo.
The 23-year-old member of Alpine Canada’s women’s national senior development team who is on the comeback trail from an injury, paid the price, though. She whacked her head on a gate during her first run of the day. Despite the mishap, she stayed on course, clocking the seventh fastest time on her first run and the 11th fastest on the second. Her combined time was 2:08.68. “It was a very good result for Émilie, she did a good job,’’ said Mike Necesanek, the head national development coach. “She really banged her head hard on that first run, it slowed her down a little, but she kept on going. She had a big headache when it was over.’’
Meanwhile, Desforges and Pointe Claire native Anna Goodman also competed in two Nor-Am slalom races at Winter Park last Tuesday and Wednesday. Desforges finished 26th and 15th respectively while Goodman ended up 23rd and 20th.
