Prestigious tourney
It’s become a tradition over the holiday season, and due to its rigorous and extended schedule spread over a two-week period, one of the toughest single-letter hockey tournaments to win gold. Two area teams did just that, though, at the recently held Notre Dame de Grâce Provincial Novice/Atom Tournament. The Lakeshore Tigers defeated the Anjou Dynamos 5-1 in the novice A championship game while in an all-West Island atom A final, the Lakeshore Lions squeaked by the Pierrefonds Marquis 4-3. Meanwhile, the Lakeshore Bengals lost 9-3 to the HSO Sharks in the novice B final. In the atom A final , the Lions fought back from a 3-2 deficit with a little over three minutes left to play in the third period to score two unanswered goals, to ear the right to wear gold.
Desforges doing well
Dorval native Émilie Desforges continued her impressive comeback on the Nor Am Cup circuit last week by capturing her second and third medals of the season. The 23-year-old Desforges, who missed the entire 2005-’06 season with a back injury, won silver last Wednesday with a time of 1:50.45 and bronze a day after in 1:49.32 while competing in the giant slalom at the Northwest Mutual Funds event in Mont-Ste. Anne, QC. “(Desforges) skied solid runs and skied smart, said Canadian women’s national development team head Coach Mike Necesanek. “The course was very back and forth and she has a tendency to go a little bit straight but didn’t do that. She was in control. The only other local skier to compete in Mont Ste. Anne was Pointe Claire’s Anna Goodman, who finished 21st.
