Teen hit by car in Pierrefonds
A motorist struck a teenage girl as she darted across a busy street in Pierrefonds last Thursday afternoon.
At 5:20 p.m., the 16-year-old Dollard des Ormeaux resident ran across Jacques Bizard Boulevard to catch a bus on Pierrefonds Boulevard, Const. Dan Maheu of Montreal police Station 3 said. She was hit by a car driven by a 41-year-old Ile Bizard resident who was travelling at about 40 kilometres an hour, Maheu said. The girl fell to the ground, but was not injured. She was taken to hospital as a precaution, he said. No charges will be laid against the driver. Maheu said Station 3 police aim to make pedestrian safety a priority in 2007 because out of 748 vehicle accidents last year, 46 per cent involved pedestrians, Maheu said. Local police will be on the lookout for jaywalkers, who will be fined of $40 for an infraction.

Campus break-ins

Campus security guards arrested a man who was seen breaking into cars at the John Abbott College campus last week. After several reports of vehicle break-ins in the school’s parking lots, security officers spotted the suspect entering cars on Feb. 5 at around 11 a.m., according to Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal police Station 1. The guards caught the man as he was sitting in a vehicle with a screwdriver in his hand and made a citizen’s arrest, she said. The 30-year-old Montreal man — who had no apparent connection to the Ste. Anne de Bellevue school — was detained until police arrived, she added.

Senior robbed

A man who stopped a 71-year-old woman to ask for directions in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Feb. 4 made off with her wallet. At around 4 p.m., the suspect asked the woman how to get to downtown from the Kirkland store, Const. Chantal Morneau of police Station 1 said.

He opened a map on the trunk of her car to distract the Beaconsfield resident, while he or an accomplice snatched her wallet from her purse, Morneau said. The victim didn’t know her wallet was missing until her bank phoned to ask about unusual withdraws from her account. Morneau said the suspect likely watched as the woman punched in her debit card’s PIN inside the store and followed her into the parking lot. He is described as five-foot-10, about 45-50 years old, with short hair and a medium complexion.

Eatery robbed in Dollard

A white English-speaking make with a calm demeanour robbed a sandwich shop in Dollard des Ormeaux earlier this week, Montreal police Station cops said.

The approximately 20-year-old man walked into the Subway restaurant on Sources Boulevard near Brunswick Sunday night about 6:35 p.m. and asked the cashier very calmly for the cash in the till, said Const. Chantal Castonguay. The man whispered "Don't worry. Give me all the money in the cash register and everything will be OK," to the 19-year-old Pierrefonds resident behind the counter. The man didn't indicate he had a weapon and fled north on foot, Castonguay added. Police are still
