A 16-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near Lakeshore and Morgan roads in Baie d’Urfé on Feb. 12.

The teen was reported drunk after the police responded to a phone call from the driver himself.
At around 1:30 a.m. he began having car trouble and could not move it forward, he then proceeded to knock on doors of nearby homes asking to use their phones, said Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal police Station 1.

Once the police arrived the teen claimed he could not move the car forward and was going to drive to his Ile Perrot home in reverse.

The police realized he showed signs of being drunk and was promptly arrested.

Home break-in

Two safes containing money and jewelry were stolen out of a Pierrefonds home Sunday.

The break-in occurred while the 56-year-old owner of the house on Pierre Legault Street and his family were away from 1 to 7 p.m., said Const. Daniel Maheu of Montreal police Station 3.

Police believe the suspect broke into the master bedroom where the safes were located. The family did not see anything out of the ordinary in the rest of the house.

The suspect may have had an accomplice waiting in a car for their get away.

An investigation is underway.

If anyone in the area noticed anything peculiar in the vicinity between 1 and 7 p.m. call 514-280-0103.

Police crackdown

Station 3 police will be cracking down on snowmobile enthusiasts this weekend in Ile Bizard.

Const. Daniel Maheu of Montreal police Station 3 said the area has had a lot of trouble with people not respecting snowmobile laws.

The extra surveillance is an attempt to make hobbyists extra prudent while operating their vehicle.

Residents of the area have been complaining of drunken snowmobile drivers.

As a result the police will be enforcing the law thoroughly and would like to remind anyone planning to drive their snowmobile that the laws concerning alcohol consumption are the same as operating an automobile.

Pickpocket cases

It seems the pickpocketer who robbed a 71-year-old woman on Feb. 4 in Kirkland struck again on Feb. 13 at 5.20 p.m. The incident took place at Loblaws store in Kirkland. This time the victim was a 75-year-old woman.

The routine was the same in both cases; a man pretended to be lost on his way downtown and asked for directions on a map. The police believe while the senior was distracted giving directions, someone snatched the wallet from the purse from the trunk of her car, said Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal police Station 1. Soon after the woman had a suspicion of what happened and immediately checked for her wallet and realized it was missing. She described the man as having brown hair and standing at five-foot -four. The woman also added the pickpocketer spoke English with an accent.

Purse snatched

A 12-year-old girl had her purse stolen by a gang of youngsters while she was playing video games last Saturday at Cinema Guzzo on Brunswick Boulevard in Dollard des Ormeaux.

The Dollard resident had put her purse down on the ground while she was playing an arcade game at the movie theatre Saturday night, said Const. Chantal Castonguay of Montreal police Station 4.

The girl was then approached by another girl, about 14, who asked her a number of probing questions, Castonguay said, while a group of young men — all black, and about 16 years old — milled about. The girl then noticed her purse, along with wallet, cash and identification, had been taken, police said.

“People need to be vigilant and hang onto their purses at all times,” Castonguay said. Police continue to investigate the incident.

Store robbed

A convenience store in Dollard des Ormeaux was robbed last Wednesday, but police managed to get a good description of the suspect’s vehicle and are still investigating.

The store, located at the corner of Sunnybrooke Avenue and Spring Garden Road, was held up at 11:55 p.m., minutes before closing. One suspect rang the doorbell to be let in, and when the cashier buzzed him in, the other suspect slipped inside the store. The two suspects entered the store and turned out the lights to convince passers-by the store was closed, said Const. Chantal Castonguay of Montreal police Station 4. One suspect ordered the cashier to hand over the contents of the cash, while his accomplice went behind the cash and began pouring cartons of cigarettes into a black garbage bag, Castonguay said. Both men were English-speaking white males around 20 years old. The first man was five-foot-nine and weighed about 140 pounds while the second man was five-foot-eleven and weighed about 160 pounds.

The suspect’s car is a late-model champagne-coloured Nissan Sentra. Police are also investigating a phone call the suspect made to a cellphone from the store to his getaway driver.
