Swimmers from the Pointe Claire Swim Club (PCSC) hopped on a bus recently and travelled to Trois Rivières to compete in a P2 meet.
They returned home with the team championship, winning the age-group section with 435 points, 41 ahead of second-place CSQ (Quebec) and 52 ahead of third-place CAMO (Montreal). Pointe Claire also captured the senior category with 281 points, 145 points ahead of second-place CAMO and 157 ahead of CSQ.

Meanwhile, Pointe Claire’s 13-14 year-olds won the high point in their division with 13-year-old Ashley McGregor awarded the AQUAM bursary for her performance in breaststroke.

“The weekend went well, there were some close races and great competition,” McGregor said. “I swam some best times. The cheering was great, the team spirit was awesome, and overall it was a great meet.”

Goodman returns with a fury

A self-imposed three-week break on the Pontiac GMC Cup alpine ski circuit seemed to do wonders for Pointe Claire native Anna Goodman. Clocking a two-run time of 1:52.11, the 21-year-old Goodman captured gold at a recent women’s slalom at Camp Fortune, Que.

“I decided to rest during the world championship period and I came back here feeling a lot better,” said Goodman, who picked up silver in the women’s slalom at the 2005 Canada Winter Games. “I put down two good runs.”

The Pontiac GMC Cup is Canada’s national development race series geared towards the development of Canada’s future champions.

The overall champions in both the men and women’s categories will each receive the $5,000 top prize.

Speed skating

Ana Pacanins of the Dollard des Ormeaux Speed Skating Club has become the first athlete ever produced by the club to qualify for the elite level-one category, the top level on the provincial speed-skating stage. It’s the last step before the national level. Pacanins, 17, will be the only Lac St. Louis skater competing at this month’s Quebec championships, to be held at the Maurice Richard Arena.
