Seven members of 690 Lakeshore (Beaconsfield) Air Cadets were among 59 recipients from across Quebec to receive the Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award from the Lieutenant Governor on 24 March. Her Honour, Lise Thibault made the presentations in Québec City.
Parents, friends and adult leaders were on hand as the young men and women received their certificate of achievement from Her Honour. The silver pin, displaying Prince Philip’s Royal Cypher, indicates that the recipient has completed a program of community service, personal achievement, physical fitness and outdoor expedition or exploration.
Over the past two years seven Bronze Awards and 12 Silver Awards have been received by 690 Lakeshore cadets. Three members will be participating in an upcoming Expedition at Mount Tremblant for four days as a pre-requisite for their Gold Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an international program operating in 105 countries. There are three awards: bronze for those over the age of 14; silver for those over 15, and gold for those aged 16 to 25.
