Lions claw back to tie series at three
Game 7 goes Tuesday night
BY MICHAEL PIASETZKI
It’s been quite a year for the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League Lac St. Louis Lions. Showing much grit, head coach Danny Dupont’s troops rallied from a 2-0 deficit in their best-of-seven division final series against the Laurentides Vikings to even it at three games apiece. Games seven will be played Tuesday night (April 3) in Rosemère.
Here is a capsule look at games three through six.
Game 3: Lions 4 Vikings 3 (March 28, Rosemère)
The Lions put pressure on Vikings goaltender Charles-Albert Corsi early to grab a 1-0 lead but fall behind 3-1 before Louis Leblanc scores in the second and Mathieu Gingras adds another with 17 seconds gone in the third period to tie things up. Francis Drolet nets the winner at 5:39 of the third, and goaltender Alexander Peck holds on for the win.
Game 4: Lions 5 Vikings 1 (March 30, Dollard Civic Centre)
A rare off night for Corsi, and the Lions cruise to a 5-1 win. Michael Domsodi in the first and Alan Klebanskyj in the second give the Lions a 2-1 lead heading into the third. The final frame belongs to the Lions as Kyle Hunchberger, Leblanc, and Drolet score. Peck picks up the win.
Game 5: Vikings 4 Lions 3 (March 31, Rosemère)
The teams trade first-period goals with Matthew Whitaker scoring for the Lions, but the second period is all Vikings, who take a 4-1 lead. The Lions refuse to go away in the third, though as Joseph Campanelli with 25 seconds elapsed and Jordan Lennen at 13:25 make it a one-goal game, but Corsi holds the fort afterwards.
Game 6: Lions 3 Vikings 1 (April 1, Dollard Civic Centre)
Peck is tremendous for the Lions, registering 32 saves, leading the Lions to the crucial win. Following a scoreless first period, Campanelli beats Corsi at 13:52 of the second before the Vikings tie it three minutes later. Campanelli then makes it 2-1 on the power play at 19:22 of the second. Peck is solid the rest of the way before Domsodi scores the insurance marker at 18:52 of the third.
