Two drivers arrested after police roadblock
Police made two arrests at a roadblock in Ste. Anne de Bellevue last week. Officers checked 150 cars for drunk drivers from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. during the night between Thursday and Friday, said Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal police Station 1.
A 22-year-old Pierrefonds man with a blood-alcohol level of 0.143 (above the legal limit of 0.08) was arrested for drinking and driving and a 23-year-old man from Baie d’Urfé was brought in on drug possession charges.
Morneau said police noticed marijuana residue on the suspect’s pants when he pulled up to the roadblock.
Officers searched the man and found 10 grams of marijuana in his front pocket.
Stabbing incident
A store clerk who chased down a robbery suspect was stabbed Saturday in Dorval. After the suspect, a man in his 40s, robbed the Maxi grocery store at about 3 p.m. he fled on foot, said Const. Lyne Leblond of Montreal Station 5. A 47-year-old store employee pursued the suspect, who ran across Dorval Avenue and tried to carjack a vehicle from its driver. When the clerk caught up to the man and tried to subdue him the robber stabbed him in the thorax, Leblond said. The store employee was transported to hospital and his injuries are not considered life-threatening, she said. Police arrived on the scene and arrested the man.
Officer’s best friend
A police dog helped officers catch a suspected car thief last week in Beaconsfield. Officers in an unmarked Sûreté du Québec vehicle chased the suspect, who was driving a stolen Dodge Caravan, from Ile Perrot to Beaconsfield on April 17 at about 10 a.m., said Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal Station 1. SQ officers pursued the Caravan through residential streets until the suspect, a man in his 30s, crashed into a parked truck on Florida Drive. Immediately after the collision, the man exited the vehicle and fled on foot, Morneau said. Montreal police, called in by the SQ, set up a perimeter in the area. Morneau said they also brought in the canine unit. The dog found the suspect under a balcony on Applewood Crescent at 11 a.m. and officers arrested him.
