EDMONTON - Ambulances, fire trucks, helicopters, search and rescue dogs, and even a bomb disposal robot swarmed an Edmonton park Saturday.
They weren't there to answer a rescue call, but rather to let the public see up close what they do.
Pilots hoisted children inside the choppers, while RCMP officers used a rotating truck cab to illustrate how the insides of a car get shaken around in a roll-over.
Rescue dogs posed for pictures and shook countless paws, and people tried on the weighty suits used to protect bomb disposal officers.
Mike Cook, the city's emergency preparedness officer, says the main idea was for families to have fun while learning about rescue services they may not have known existed.
But Cook says he's also hoping the event will challenge people to make sure they do their part to protect their families by putting together a survival kit to get them through the early stages of a disaster.
