VALLEYFIELD, Que. - A 46-year-old man was arraigned by videoconference Wednesday on charges he tried to kill an RCMP officer during a raid on a marijuana field in August 2006.
Police were fired upon as they raided the field near Hemmingford. They said one man appeared and raised a weapon in their direction. One officer said his bullet-proof vest was pierced by a bullet but the projectile was stopped before it reached his body and he was unharmed.
Police lost track of the man in the bush but informed provincial police about the incident.
A suspect was located after several months of investigation and a provincial police tactical team arrested a man on Tuesday near Montreal.
