NANAIMO, B.C. - A B.C. mother managed to rescue three of her children from their burning home early Monday but couldn't get to her last child, who died in the fire.
RCMP in Nanaimo, B.C., say Andrea Sam awoke to find her home in flames.
She was able to get three of her children out of the home but heat and flames prevented her from reaching her eight-year-old daughter, who was asleep in a separate room.
Nanaimo Fire and Rescue arrived within minutes of getting a call just before 9 a.m. but found the house fully engulfed.
Eight-year-old Marsha Sam was killed in the fire.
Fire investigators and the B.C. coroner's service are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
