TORONTO - The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of a mine worker at the Canada Talc mine near Madoc, Ont.
Police say the 22-year-old Madoc man was killed shortly before 2 a.m. while working in an area about 200 metres below ground, where talc is elevated to be crushed and refined.
The man's body has been recovered by the mine's rescue unit and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Ministry spokesman Bruce Skeaff says inspectors are at the site trying to determine what happened.
Local radio stations report that the young worker was buried after rock shifted.
The company's website indicates approximately 50 employees work at the mine, which generates between $1 million and $5 million in sales.
