TORONTO - Police say a woman who died in an overnight car crash in Toronto's east end spent hours in a wooded area before her vehicle and body were discovered.
The woman was thrown through the driver's side window of her car after it veered off Highway 2A and smashed into a tree sometime Thursday night or early Friday.
The area where the crash occurred is thick with trees and bushes, so police believe hours passed before the woman's car and body were found.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near Kingston Road and Highway 401 around 8:15 a.m. Friday morning when a motorist spotted the wreckage.
Police have identified the victim as a woman in her 50s from Oshawa, Ont.
Investigators suspect the victim, who was alone in the car, might not have been wearing a seatbelt.
