LESTOCK, Sask. - A police sniper who fatally shot a Saskatchewan man holed up in his house nearly two years ago says the man's actions forced him to shoot.
RCMP Const. Michael Rosset testified Thursday at an inquiry into the death of Delbert Kenneth Pelletier on Nov. 13, 2006. Rosset said he watched Pelletier, 44, come out of his home on the Muskowekwan First Nation during a standoff with police.
The sniper said Pelletier came out with a rifle, raised the gun and fired a shot.
So Rosset said he fired "one round, centre mass", piercing Pelletier's heart.
The jury is expected to begin deliberations Friday on their recommendations to prevent a similar situation.
