QUEBEC - Former Quebec lieutenant governor Lise Thibault will have to pay her own travel expenses and hotel costs when she testifies before a provincial legislature committee next week.
Thibault is expected to testify next Thursday and Friday before a parliamentary commission to justify her spending of public funds during her time in the prestigious post.
Thibault, who is confined to a wheelchair, had asked the province to pay her travel expenses.
But legislature spokesman Jacques Villemure says it is not standard practice to pay a citizen's expenses and no exceptions will be made.
Thibault is being called to testify before the province's public administration committee about her extravagant spending habits.
Both the federal and Quebec auditors general issued reports in 2007 saying Thibault spent more than $700,000 during her 10 years as lieutenant governor on expenses not linked to her official activities.
Thibault has denied any wrongdoing and has attributed some of the transport and security costs to her physical condition.
