LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - The mayor of a southern Alberta city has lifted a state of emergency declared after a torrential downpour that damaged at least 60 homes.
An intense thunderstorm Tuesday dropped more than 45 millimetres of rain in about 90 minutes, flooding streets and homes. The city says it's received reports that about 60 homes were damaged by flooding, and more calls are expected to come in.
Lethbridge Mayor Bob Tarleck says the city will apply for help through the provincial disaster recovery program.
Health officials say the city's water is also now safe to drink.
They had warned residents not to bathe or drink it after sewage overflowed into the Oldman River.
