MONTREAL - The lawyer for a Belgian man who faces a number of sex-related charges involving a 13-year-old Montreal girl says it will be hard for his client to get bail.
Jeffrey Boro acknowledged Wednesday that it will be very difficult to persuade a judge to set Vincent Raphael Duval free.
"It's always tough for a person who is not a national," he said. "It's clear that it is a strike against them and they will have to offer certain guarantees that would satisfy the court."
Duval, 32, has pleaded not guilty to six charges including sexual interference, sexual touching, kidnapping and three counts of luring with a computer.
The charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred between October 2007 and last weekend.
Montreal police say they found Duval with the girl at a dingy hotel near the city's bus station on Saturday.
Boro said that bail is generally very difficult to get in European courts and his client realizes it will also be difficult in Montreal.
"He understands he is in a difficult situation," Boro said.
Duval returns to court on Friday for his bail hearing.
