REGINA - Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says paying down the province's debt will be a priority as his government looks to spend its resource revenue windfall.
Wall says his government has an opportunity to do something significant with the province's debt and leave a "legacy" for future generations.
Currently, provincial law dictates that half of all unbudgeted surpluses must go toward paying down the debt, but Wall wants to know if more can be done.
He's asked his government members to spend their summer break gauging what people think is the best way to deal with the province's overflowing coffers.
The 2008 budget pegs the province's debt at $11.4 billion.
Wall's comment follows the end of the spring session of the legislature, which wrapped up today.
