MONTREAL - Montreal police say a rumble between rival street gangs resulted in a possible gunshot being fired in front of a college on Wednesday.
Police spokeswoman Lynne Labelle said nobody was injured in the confrontation between two groups of youths outside College Ahuntsic. Police say a loud noise was heard during the melee but Labelle could not confirm whether the noise was indeed a gunshot.
Both groups had fled by the time police arrived on the scene.
Police did detain three people thanks to descriptions provided by witnesses, Labelle said.
Labelle said witnesses were also able to give a description of vehicles used in the getaway and police were looking for other suspects.
Police had earlier said the school was evacuated but school officials later confirmed they did not order an evacuation because it may have put students in further danger.
