MEXICO CITY - A tropical depression has formed off Mexico and the government has issued a tropical storm warning for the country's southwest coast from Acapulco to Zihuatanejo.
At 2 a.m. ET Sunday, the depression's centre was located about 320 kilometres southwest of Acapulco.
It has maximum sustained winds near 48 kilometres per hour with higher gusts and some strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours.
The depression, which formed Saturday, is moving west-northwest at 11 km/h.
It is expected to bring 10 to 15 centimetres of rain with isolated accumulations up to 25 centimetres along Mexico's southwestern coast.
Forecasters are warning of the potential for flash flooding and mudslides.
