Solid bowling for Pierrefonds
Solid bowling for Pierrefonds
It’s nothing but smiles these days at the Pierrefonds Lawn Bowling Club as it reflects on the recently completed season. On the ladies’ side, Carolyn McGarr captured the provincial singles and Governor General trophies while McGarr, Margaret MacNeil, Voula Vassilounis and Norma Cassidy captured the provincial ladies’ novice fours title. MacNeil was also a member of the ladies fours team that won the Rose Bowl Tournament while McGarr and Shirley Wright finished second in provincial ladies’ pairs. Finally, the club’s senior ladies brought home the Golden Girls Trophy.

On the men’s side, the foursome of skip Roger Smith, third Wayne Hossack, Daniel Menard and lead Matthieu Gauvin captured the provincial men’s fours while the team of Smith and Shirley Wright was runners up in provincial mixed pairs. The team of Smith, Frank MacNeil and Margaret MacNeil was runners up in provincial mixed triples.

Finally, Pierrefonds’ Kerry O’Reilly earned an invitation to represent Canada at the upcoming World Bowls, scheduled to take place in New Zealand in January.

Exciting men’s senior

water polo on tap

The third edition of the Montreal Premier Water Polo League Dollard des Ormeaux Devils kicks off this Friday night at the Dollard Aquatic Centre as rival CAMO comes to town. Five teams, including the Dollard Devils, have entered the league, which features many of the finest senior men’s players in the province and country. The Devils boast several current senior, junior and youth national team members, along with standout club stars, all locally developed talent.

“We can promise fans who come out to watch entertainment value,” said the Devils’ Mike Gordon. “It should certainly be an exciting yet chippy affair.”

One notable absentee from the Devils’ lineup will be Nathaniel Miller, a Dollard club product who has gone on to compete at the national level. He recently signed a professional contract with Budva in the Montenegran National League. Budva is one of the top club teams in the world.

Cisse earns award

for solid play

Yassin Cisse of the Dollard des Ormeaux-based Lac St. Louis Lions was recently named the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League’s September winner of the Coop fédérée award, given to the league’s best 15-year-old for the month. The right-winger scored five goals while adding seven assists during eight games, the best among his age group in the league. Among his tallies were two game winners and two on the power play. 겁
