Results from the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board (CSMB) election nomination period are in, and 20 of the board’s 21 wards will be contested by candidates looking to become school board commissioners.

The French-language school board oversees about 45,000 students in 87 educational institutions from Outremont to Ste. Anne de Bellevue. Of the 51 candidates that registered for the elections, 25 of them will be running in all eight West Island contests in the Nov. 4 election. While some will be running independently, there are also two official parties: the Équipe Lamarche-Venne (Lamarche-Venne Team) led by St. Laurent-North candidate Diane Lamarche-Venne and the Équipe Éducation et avenir (Education and Future Team) lead by LaSalle-North candidate Jocelyne Bérnard-Rochon.

West Island contests will take place in:

- Pierrefonds/Roxboro-East, where independent Carole Legault, Nathalie Morin (Équipe Éducation et avenir), and Catherine Thomas (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) are running;

- Dollard des Ormeaux-East, where independent Denis Tremblay and Guy Allard (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) are competing;

- Pierrefonds-Roxboro-North/Dollard des Ormeaux-West, where independents Guylain Desnoyers and Amany Naguib, as well as Ibrahim Abdelatiff (Équipe Éducation et avenir) and Félix Méloul (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) are running;

- Ile Bizard-Ste. Genevieve/Pierrefonds-Roxboro-Centre, where independent Marie France Bourret is up against Suzanne Marceau (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) and Nathalie Hervé (Équipe Éducation et avenir);

- Pierrefonds-Roxboro-West/Kirkland-North, where Jean-Guy D’Amour and Michel Lemay (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) will compete for votes;

- Senneville/Ste. Anne de Bellevue/Baie D’Urfe/Beaconsfield/Kirkland-South, where independents Sonia Gagné-Lalonde and Hela Labene, as well as Réal Ouellette (Équipe Éducation et avenir) are running;

- Pointe Claire, where independent Susan L. Stokley, Claude Cuillerier (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) and Sébastien Francoeur (Équipe Éducation et avenir) are competing;

- Dorval/Dorval Island/Lachine-West, where independents Paul St. Amour, Suzanne Tétreault, and Serge Girard, as well as André Danis (Équipe Lamarche-Venne) and Danielle Houle (Équipe Éducation et avenir) are running.

Elections will be held in all 69 Quebec school boards on Nov. 4. For more infor-mation on the CSMB elections, visit www.csmb.qc.ca, or call the board’s election office at 514-855-2278. The office will be open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. until the elections.翿
