No more horsing around
Beaconsfield-native Biance LaFontaine helped Canada to a silver medal in the Junior division of the premier equestrian competition in North American for riders aged 14-21.
This year’s North American Junior and Young Riders’ Championship took place in Lexington, Virginia during the first week of August.
The eighteen year-old LaFontaine made the twelve-hour drive south for the event.
LaFontaine, along with fellow Quebecers David Arcand, Frédérique Côté and Billie Derouet, placed second in the Junior team competition.
“It was really competitive and people were from all over. We got to meet people from Mexico and the Caribbean,” she said.
LaFontaine made the final round of individual competition after placing 10th out of 50 heading into the final day.
In the individual medals, gold went to Katherine Newman of Upperville, Virginia. David Arcand of Montreal won silver, and Reba McIver from Anna, Ontario took bronze.
LaFontaine currently lives in Hudson but is planning to move back to Beaconsfield at the end of the month. The move will shorten her commute to St Bruno on the South Shore, where she goes riding five or six days a week.
