The pewee Alexander Park Roughriders roughed up the Chateauguay Raiders this weekend, becoming one of five North Shore football teams to snag a title at the provincial finals.
"I'm feeling excellent now," said head coach Steve Mons, speaking to The Chronicle after a tight 34-27 victory at the CEPSUM Centre at Université de Montréal last Saturday.

Mons congratulated Sean Stein, one of the Quebec Football Commission's chosen MVP players of the tournament, for his excellent work during the game. Jersey no. 35, Mons said, did an excellent job intercepting a throw and making it to touchdown near the end of the game.

"I have to give it to the Raiders," he said, "they did a pretty good job shutting us down in the beginning." It took effort to turn around the 7-6 lead the Raiders had on them at the start of the game, he said.

Mons said that the two teams were quite evenly matched. The Roughriders went in with a record of 12-0 for the season and the Raiders were very close with a record of 11-1. The Raiders even scored the last touchdown of the game, with 43 seconds left to the buzzer, but it was not enough to close the gap.

"I don't know that it's ever been done before," Mons said of the five North Shore teams winning finals in the same season. He said he wanted to make small versions of the victory banners that each head coach would receive for their teams and have them distributed to all team members.
