Kirklander Marco Bochiccchio got a taste of what of singing feels like in front of a large audience and he blew the judges away.
Bochiccchio, 11, took part in the Revelations singing contest held at the St. Denis theatre in Montreal Sept. 28-29. He won top prize in the 8-12 age category.
"This was a great experience for me and I made a lot of new friends," said the Grade 6 student at Margret Manson school. The song he choose for his finale was 'My heart will go on,' a hit song for Celine Dion, one of Bochiccchio's favourite artists along with Andrea Bocelli. "I like to sing slow and upbeat songs,' he said.
Prizes for the contest were worth about $3,000 and include clothing, a bursary, singing lessons and a photo shoot.
Bochiccchio said he hopes to one to make living as performer, either as a singer or dancer, as he also takes dance classes and piano lessons. He said that he started to sing when he was 4. He is also a member of the McGill Conservatory's children's choir.
His father, Archie Bochiccchio, said his son loves to sing. "He wakes up in the morning singing, he just wants to do it all the time" he said.
After winning the Revelations contest, the proud father said he will have to start taking his son's singing/music ambitions more seriously.
