Montreal Executive Committee vice-president Sammy Forcillo and Pointe Claire Mayor Bill McMurchie announce a major reparation project on a section of St. John's Boulevard last Friday.
St. John's renovations
While not all issues between the City of Montreal and demerged municipalities are solved, Pointe Claire and Montreal announced a joint venture that may very well show relations between the two are improving, as St. John's Boulevard is set for a big overhaul.
"The City of Pointe Claire is in the middle of a major boom," said Mayor Bill McMurchie. "Restoring this very busy boulevard will certainly improve the quality of life of our citizens," he added.
Over $5 million in repairs are planned, said Montreal executive committee vice-president Sammy Forcillo.
This includes fixing up Highway 40's exit ramp toward St. John's from the west, and widening St. John's southbound between the exit ramp and Hymus Boulevard. A left turn on Holiday Street from St. John's is also to be added. Traffic signals and lighting are to be modified, and borders, sidewalks, and central aisles to be repaired.
"The projects we are announcing will improve geometric configuration of many intersections on St. John's Boulevard in order to better respond to traffic growth that's being generated by the arrival of real estate projects in Pointe Claire," said Forcillo.
The budget comes from the City of Montreal's total budget of $181 million dedicated to arterial road reparations this year.
The project is expected to last throughout July, and two traffic lanes in both directions on St. John's Boulevard will remain open at all times.
