The West Island suburbs are blossoming with garden organizations to celebrate. Several clubs include the Dorval Horticultural Society, the Beaconsfield Garden Club and the Hudson Garden Club among others.
The Beaconsfield Garden Club (BGC) meets on the second Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. of each month from September to May. The BGC holds discussions on all things gardening. Past discussions include focus on different aspects of gardening such as garden maintenance, organization and techniques that can be used to practice a “greener” approach to gardening.
Membership fees vary from $10 to $20 depending on when potential members join the group. Membership includes a 10 per cent discount on perennials at local nurseries, access to the club’s website to be able to make plant sale and exchange announcements on the website and gain valuable information that will help improve your garden.

The Dorval Horticultural Society (DHS), also known as the Dorval Garden Club, has more than 50 years of experience to share with all those interested in both outdoor and indoor plants. The group meets every fourth Monday of the month September through May at 7:30 p.m. at the Sarto Desnoyers Community Centre, 1335 Lakeshore Dr.
Not only will the knowledge be shared amongst members but included in the membership fee of $10 members gain access to seminars, competitions and workshops designed to help improve each member’s skills. DHS focuses on their concern about protecting the environment and offers tips and tricks to anyone who shares their passion, newcomers are welcome.

The Pointe Claire Horticultural Society

The Hudson Garden Club (originally called The Lake of Two Mountains Garden Club) meets on the third Tuesday of each month between March and November, at 7:45 p.m. at the St James' Church, 642 Main Rd., Hudson. Although the exact date the group was founded remains a mystery, the group has been around since the 1940s and have had a part in community events such as fundraisers and making their contributions to the environment by promoting “green” methods to their members.
The cost of an annual membership fee is $20 gives you access to discounts at local nurseries, specially priced root sales twice a year (spring and fall) and the privilege to attend lectures featuring guest speakers among other things.
