HIT THE POST WITH CJAD'S RICK MOFFAT, VOICE OF THE ALS & THE CANADIENS
It's been six years since Ben Cahoon had a game without a catch---100 consecutive regular season games when he grabs a pass from Calvillo against the Lions---but what's even more impressive? I can't remember Ben ever running out of bounds to the safety of the sidelines these past six years.

So how did a 10-year old blind boy from Hampstead become Cahoon's special motivation against BC? Gregory Krychman was a CJAD Sports Intern for a day on the eve of the game and requested an interview with the rugged pass-catcher. Ben graciously agreed to answer questions and then after the mic was off, promised Greg he'd give him the football if Calvillo hit Ben with a TD pass.

Krychman, who starts Grade 5 next week at Phillip Layton School, had already proven his enthusiasm for the Alouettes at the CJAD studio...I asked him if I could record how he would call a touchdown involving his any players....he quickly described his vision..."Calvillo throws to Cahoon...TOUCHDOWN...its a milestone!"

How on earth did Calvillo miss Ben back on August 15, 2002, the last time enemy defensive backs clutched, grabbed and otherwise blanketed Velcro Hands for 60 minutes? AC doesn't remember the game, so let the record show the Als racked up 38 points that day but AC completed only 12 passes. Ben was a decoy. Suffice to say Cahoon's the only member of the receiver corps still with the team from that Grey Cup Champion season.

Canadiens GM Bob Gainey wasn't trying to hide the frustration when he told me about the pursuit (or is it the non-pursuit) of Mats Sundin this week. I caught up with the GM at Coach Carbo's golf tournament at Le Mirage and he bluntly said "I'll go to Stockholm, but only if invited...I'm not going to hang out in the lobby of his apartment building." Truth is, Mr. Gainey told me he's only spoken to Mats twice and not since the Canadiens' exclusive negotiating period ended July 1st.

I'm told Celine doesn't like the flowers out on the grounds of Le Mirage and that after the $15-million dollar reno brings the clubhouse up to a level she can accept, the gorgeous sunflowers and other arrangements will be likely ripped up and changed out by all the tee boxes.

I'm thinking its odd that Celine and Rene's 7-year old Rene'-Charles is tearing up the course in a good way--imagine a 7-year old with a golf course as a playground? Then I remembered I used to tear up the Grove Hill Golf course as a kid---but of course I was on my green banana-seat 3-speed bike, not swinging clubs.

Phil Goyette tells me his great friend Elmer Lach shot 103 at Carbo's tourney. Not bad for a 90-year-old most senior member of the Canadiens alumni association. He'll shoot his age one of these years. I wish I could shoot my age on the front 9.

John Dinardo of CAE played in a foursome with Andrew Carter and I and after a look at my "old school" clubs (Carter calls them "Happy Gilmores") John suggested "give Elmer back his first set of clubs."
