Miracle on Sources Boulevard
A man incredibly emerged alive and unhurt after a traffic light post on the corner of Sources Boulevard and Reverchon Streets was struck off the ground by a turning truck and flattened his car earlier this afternoon.
Visibly in a state of shock, the man refused to step out of his totalled car when The Chronicle arrived at the scene and was unable to speak much. "I just talked to my wife," he explained, and later on could be seen filling out insurance papers.
As he was heading down Sources Boulevard toward Salaberry, it appeared he was cut off by a truck left off of Reverchon. "I had to turn in a hurry," the truck driver, who could be seen walking around the scene of the accident, told The Chronicle. He claimed another car was coming toward his truck, and he was left with no other choice but to make a sharp swerve in order to avoid being hit.
The confusion may be because of the road pavement work being done on Sources Boulevard. For the last month, sections of the boulevard have been closed off, narrowing traffic and putting its flow in the hands of traffic directors.
Driving one spot ahead of the car that was struck by the light was Susanne Heffernan, who was trying to figure out whether it was her turn to move or not. "I was just talking to the (traffic director) to ask her if we could move," Heffernan explained, when she suddenly saw the director jump out of her way. "I'm just glad that she was alert," Heffernan said. "She could have been killed," she added.
