Riding for a cure

It was through windy conditions Jean Charles-Hebert led 46 amateur cyclists as part of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research through CIBC’s “Run for the cure”. The group travelled 115-200 km each day while making pit stops at restaurants and hotels in Cobourg, Kingston, and Cornwall.

“It was an incredible experience, the greatest part was how we had to help each other through windy conditions,” said Hebert. “We all had our reasons to take part, for some it was personal for other like me we felt lucky that life was so good to us, and wanted to give something back.”

Apart from enduring the gruesome trip, cyclists needed to raise $2000 each. A task vice president Francis Bouchard said was “the hard part”, the ride itself “was a celebration for raising the funds”.

“It’s important for Oncology to have done this, we’re the ones who have the most impact on patients,” said Bouchard. “We’re the ones who do a lot of research in cancer treatment and for us to be able raise funds even while riding was incredible. We were able to have the places cyclists stopped match their donations.”
