Mandatory tires
I am always impressed on how our dear government can find ways to get in our pocket.
This time it's even more devious, as of Dec. 15, the new mandatory law for snow tires will be in full gear.
What a great gift to major cities that are always looking for new revenue.
I am sure Montreal Mayor Gerlad Tremblay will pull police officers from doing their duty and put them on collecting monies for the city between $200 and $300 per ticket.
We'll see more police going around shopping centres not to make sure your car does not get broken into but for checking tires and handing out nice tickets and what do you know, most shopping centres are in suburbs.
The average family cannot afford $500 to $800 for new tires.
The only way out for them will be to look for used winter tires, which will not do anything for the security aspect of this law.
But as long as they have the proper logo on, it is OK.

Village needs attention
As a resident of Pointe Claire for years, we have seen the city ignore requests to upgrade the village. It needs long overdue make over to say the least. The city spent a lot of money on a boat house for dragon boats and cannot put more seat and benches for the new park on the lake and other improvements for the village. To me it seems they do not listen to residents' complaints and have their own agenda. Weeds are all over the village and not enough flower pots on lamp posts, etc.

Cut school board
The win in last week's Lester B. Pearson School Board byelection by former commissioner Don Rae brings to mind a revealing excerpt from his platform:
“I will fight for prudent management of public funds entrusted to the board. We must reduce council, meal, social and travel expenses.”
Indeed!
