Hit the Post with Rick Moffat, CJAD 800's Voice of the Als & Habs
"Scott Flory, you've just been named CFL East Nominee for Lineman of the Year...where do you want to go?"
"I'm going to Disney World!"
Isn't it great when great things happen to good people? Flory learned of his East win less than 24 hours before taking off to Disney World with "Dreams Take Flight", a wonderful charity of Air Canada employees. Those kids are going to be spoiled for a day and they deserve it. Now if only you could have Flory and Luke Fritz blocking for you as you rush ride to ride!
Coach Carbonneau seemed too cranky for a coach of an 8-1-1 team. "You make too much of line changes" Carbo suggested after the Habs hit the ice at the Bell Centre. Truth is, Coach has Higgins back where he belongs...at Koivu's side. I love what Higgins says HE loves best about playing with Koivu..."on and off the ice I'm always learning something."
Ben Cahoon for Top Canadian. Some people vote for change, some people want change for change's sake. But when it comes to CFL Top Canadian honours Cahoon will win my vote again. No receiver in the past decade has made as many difficult catches and taken as many hits after so many catches. When they make his Hall of Fame bust, they should put some dents in it.
Talked to Tom Kurvers today about Patrick Roy's remarkable Conn Smythe performance in '86. Kurvers considers himself to be a beneficiary of Roy's and may just put his Stanley Cup ring on his finger November 22nd. Kurvers laughs when I asked him if he ever winked at Patrick after scoring, once his years with the Habs were over.
"I never scored on him once," Kurvers says from his Minnesota home where two boys under the age of 2 are making their voices heard. "Imagine you're on the powerplay and first you have to get your shot past the shinpads of Guy Carbonneau and you've still got Patrick to beat. I should just tell people I did score on him."
Honest to a fault, that original TK.
I love Halloween leftovers, but the current TK, Tom Kostopoulos may change my mind. No extra candy-bars hanging around his locker-stall...just some extra fu manchu even though he's trimmed off most of his moustache from the Habs' Halloween party. He and Mrs. TK went as Ben Stiller's character from 'DodgeBall', and one of the Dodgeball babes.
I love the fact Mike Komisarek's on the allstar ballot. Crash and bang on your keyboard extra hard when you vote. An allstar defenseman isn't all about the points....his hits and shot-block totals are worthy of giving the Komisaurus home-ice advantage along with Andrei Markov.
