Tigers top Panthers, lead Lions Division
In Peewee CC action Sunday night, the Lakeshore Tigers prevailed 6-5 against the rival Panthers in a game that pitted the top two teams in the Lions Division against one another.
Leading 2-1 after the first, the Tigers took the ice for the second period on a mission, potting 3 goals in the span of two minutes to take command of the all Lakeshore showdown.
The Tigers appeared to put the game out of reach when they extended their lead to 6-1, late in the second, but to the Panthers’ credit, they hung tough, answering with a goal less than a minute later and scoring another three in the third period.
In the end it was a matter of too little, too late, as the one goal differential stood up. Pacing the Tigers with two goals, Kevin St-Amour was instrumental in his team’s efforts to retain top spot in the division.
This was the third and final regular season meeting between the two squads, with the Tigers taking two of the three encounters. The game was characteristically close, as none of the three games have been decided by more than two goals.
The Panthers will hope for a rematch in the playoffs, where both teams are expected to be contenders for the league championship.
